A new, innovative form of substance abuse research tracks the online behaviors of internet users. Addiction researchers use the search results for potentially addictive substances, such as Ambien, to identify trends and developments.

Side Effects of Ambien – Serious Complications can Arise

The recreational use of Ambien can have serious side effects. Even though it is classified as a Schedule IV drug, which means it has a low potential for abuse, individuals can develop an Ambien “addiction” or dependency. Some of the more serious side effects of Ambien abuse include confusion, hallucinations and delusions, short-term amnesia and severe mood changes. Ambien is particularly dangerous when combined with alcohol or other drugs.

Graph 1 below shows that while queries for Ambien are extremely varied, a major preoccupation of searchers involves buying Ambien online. The phrase “buy Ambien” was searched an astonishing 145,648 times in just a one-year period. Similarly, judging from the 67,475 searches that this phrase received, individuals clearly want to purchase “Ambien without a prescription”.
